Why do these warnings appear?
Remastra Video is built by an independent developer and is not yet code-signed with a paid certificate (these cost hundreds of dollars per year, which we plan to add as the app grows). Because the app is new and unsigned, Windows SmartScreen and some antivirus tools flag it automatically — not because anything was detected in it, but because they haven’t seen this file from enough users yet.
The app has no networking code at all — it runs 100% offline and physically cannot connect to the internet. Your videos never leave your computer. You can verify this yourself by running it on a machine with no network connection. The two steps below get you past the warnings safely.
Step 1 — Windows SmartScreen (“Windows protected your PC”)
When you first run RemastraVideo.exe, Windows may show a blue box that appears to only offer a Don’t run button. The Run anyway button is hidden until you expand it:
- Click the small “More info” link near the top of the blue box.
- A “Run anyway” button will appear at the bottom — click it.
- The app launches. You’ll only need to do this once.
Step 2 — If your antivirus quarantines the file (McAfee, etc.)
Some antivirus products (notably McAfee) may move RemastraVideo.exe to quarantine on first run. This is a false positive caused by the way the app is packaged — a common issue for new, unsigned independent software. To restore it:
- Open your antivirus (e.g. McAfee) and go to Quarantined Items (in McAfee: menu → Quarantine).
- Find
RemastraVideo.exein the list, select it, and click Restore. - If it gets quarantined again when you run it, add the
RemastraVideofolder to your antivirus’s exclusions / allowed list (McAfee: Real-Time Scanning → Excluded Files → Add file), then launch the app again.
